Local residential moving typically involves loading a customer’s goods on one or two trucks from an originating address and driving it to a destination point and unloading the goods all within one day (or for bigger jobs – two days).
Because there are so many variables (such as weather conditions, distances, number of floors or steps to be traversed, size of move, etc.) local charges must be computed by the hour for the crew and for the moving truck(s) being used. Therefore, there cannot be any fixed fees, flat-rates or not-to-exceed charges that we can quote either on the phone or in the field.
Reliable moving services also charge travel time for the men and the truck(s). Travel time in the moving industry is the total time to get from their office to the originating address in the empty truck and then when the move is done to get back from the final destination to their office in the empty truck. Travel time is not to be confused with the driving time in the middle of the move with the load on the truck(s) – which is called job time in the moving industry. Many people have confusion over this issue. A travel time charge is an add-on time charge above and beyond the mover’s actual time spent loading, driving and unloading a move job. Travel time charges pay for setting up the truck and for the men and the truck to get to and from the origin address and the final destination address.
Local moves are required by Province of British Columbia to provide their customers with free coverage of 60-cents per pound per-article for any damages which may occur to a customer’s goods due to negligence. Should you need extra insurance coverage for your move, contact your insurance agent or check your home insurance policy for options.
Long Distance Moving
Reliable moving limited has elected to offer only exclusive ship long distance moving services. Exclusive shipping means that no other customer’s goods are put on the truck with yours and no extra stops are made because the same highly-skilled movers who load your goods will drive them directly to the destination and unload them.
We provide a crew of highly trained, experienced mover / drivers who load a customer’s goods onto our truck and immediately depart directly for the destination. They drive up to 12 hours per day to arrive anywhere within the the province of British Columbia and Alberta. Then they unload and drive back empty handed.
The drawback to exclusive shipping is that the price is higher than the price of a shipper who consolidates. When shipments are consolidated each customer’s goods on board the truck share in the driving costs. Sometimes our price is twice as much as a consolidators price because you pay for the round trip whereas with a consolidator you only pay for one way driving to the destination.
For people who have fine, expensive furnishings and / or those who need very fast shipment it would be worth the higher cost to either avoid the extra potential for damages and for lost / misplaced / stolen goods that is inherent to the consolidated shipping process or to expedite the shipment.
